"E-Health and Artificial Intelligence. The new paradigm of Medicine 4.0”.

Abstract
The growing number of elderly people, the decrease in resources available for healthcare, together with the pathologies (COVID 19) that make contact between doctor and patient dangerous are now a strong signal for a change in the model of medicine currently used. But which new model? Artificial Intelligence (AI) is now the basis of every change in life today and promises to be a revolution for both patient care and the healthcare system. But the real challenge is to find a useful model to prevent the growing number of operations required for the elderly: more people but with fewer health problems. Industry 4.0, where IOT, Artificial Intelligence and advanced electronic circuits are considered the revolution of industrial production. Medicine 4.0 can have a similar approach. New Electronic devices, simple and cheap, will be used at home to monitor people. Artificial Intelligence may represent the new frontier for creating new data and models for future healthcare systems. These systems can be used to implement and interpret results and generate personalized medicine. Virtual hospitals will be used to monitor multiple patients in their own houses using AI wearable technology.
Medicine 4.0 represents the convergence of healthcare with Industry 4.0, the fourth industrial revolution characterized by the digitalization of processes and the integration of cutting-edge technologies.
But a common question is: how these systems can be trusted in medicine? What can we say about the Accuracy, Precision, Sensitivity and Specificity of the data generated by an A.I. system? The second part of the talk will contribute to these analyses using a metric typical of the Measurement world. The reliability of Artificial Intelligence applied to healthcare systems will be evaluated.

 

Short bio: Eros G. Pasero has been Professor of Electronics at the Politecnico of Turin since 1991 after a four year appointment as Professor at the University of Roma, Electronics Engineering. He is the author of more than 150 international papers.
Prof. Pasero established in 1990 the Neuronica Lab where hardware and software neurons and synapses are studied for practical applications; innovative wired and wireless sensors are also developed for biomedical, environmental, and automotive applications. Data coming from sensors are post processed by means of artificial neural networks.
Prof. Pasero served as President of SIREN, the Italian Society for Neural Networks from 2012 to 2022; he was v. General Chairman of IJCNN2000 in Como, General Chairman of SIRWEC2006 in Turin, general Chairman of WIRN2015, WIRN2016, WIRN2017, WIRN 2018, WIRN 2019, WIRN 2020 and WIRN 2022 in Vietri.
Prof. Pasero was IEEE keynote speaker at 2014 Symposium series on Computational Intelligence in Orlando, Fl, USA; Distinguished Lecturer of the 2016 IEEE Medical Information Summer School, Distinguished Lecturer of the 2017 IEEE school "Smarter Engineering for Industry 4.0", keynote speaker at I2MTC2023 in Kuala Lumpur. Now he is IEEE I&M society Distinguished Lecturer ( 2021-2026)
